Instructions for Students and Faculty

Prior to the Ceremony

Professional photographs (i.e. headshots) of all honored students and faculty members are displayed during the ceremony and / or at the reception.  All honorees who plan to attend the ceremony and have a current professional headshot may submit the photo to the Office of Special Events at spevents@pitt.edu. (The deadline to submit your own photo is Friday, February 15, 2019) Honorees who do not have a professional headshot may have one taken during the Photography Sessions on the following dates:

Pittsburgh campus:
J.W. Connolly Ballroom, Alumni Hall
Monday, February 11, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
Tuesday, February 12, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.

Bradford campus:
Bradford campus: All honored students and faculty members will be contacted by
the Office of Communications and Marketing to schedule an
appointment.

Greensburg campus:

STUDENT HONOREES

Day of the Ceremony

  • Please arrive at the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh Music Hall, 4400 Forbes Avenue, by 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 22nd.  The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m..
  • Student honorees should remain in the Music Hall foyer to line up for the student honoree procession. Family members and guests should enter and be seated in the Music Hall.
  • At the ceremony, you will receive a University of Pittsburgh pin that was designed for this occasion. It is hoped that you will wear this pin in years to come to remind you of the honor you brought to your alma mater.
  • During the ceremony, you will be asked to stand with other academic or honorary fraternity awardees. Your name—although not announced during the ceremony—will appear in the printed program. Additional copies of the program will be available in the Office of Special Events, 1200 Bruce Hall, following the ceremony.
  • The convocation is open to the public, and your family is encouraged to attend. The celebration of all honored students continues with a reception immediately following the ceremony in the Commons Room in the Cathedral of Learning. No tickets are necessary.
  • If you have a disability and require special accommodations in order to fully participate in the ceremony, please advise the Office of Special Events at 412-624-7100. We ask for your cooperation in notifying us as soon as possible.


FACULTY HONOREES

Day of the Ceremony

  • Please arrive at the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh Music Hall, 4400 Forbes Avenue, by 2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 22nd. The ceremony begins at 3 p.m.
  • Faculty members who wish to participate in the academic procession should enter the Music Hall through the exterior door marked “faculty.” Faculty members will assemble for the procession in the lower level of the Music Hall. Your guests will be directed to be seated in the General Audience.  Regalia is required to participate in the academic procession. If you do not own regalia, regalia can be purchased from the University Store on Fifth (412-648-1455).
  • Faculty who do not wish to participate in the academic procession may enter and be seated in the General Audience of the Music Hall with your guest(s). There is no reserved seating for faculty who do not process.
  • During the ceremony, all honored faculty will be recognized as a group, not individually. Your name—although not announced during the ceremony—will appear in the printed program.  Additional copies of the program will be available in the Office of Special Events, 1200 Bruce Hall, following the ceremony.
